Volunteer Opportunites

 Volunteer Opportunities

There are many different ways to volunteer with PHS. See what works for you!

Weekly Opportunities

Sign up to teach PHS lessons once a week for 10 weeks to 6th graders in an Ann Arbor public middle school. Lessons are scripted for you, stress free, and only run for 25 minutes to allow you to fit volunteering in to your busy schedules! See the "PHS Lesson" tab for a sample lesson.  There is a training for this. Two cycles of teaching are offered during the school year:

-Cycle 1: Late September- Mid-December, 11:37-12:02

-Cycle 2: Mid-January- Early April, 11:37-12:02

 One-Time Opportunities

There are many one-time events where volunteers are needed. These include:

  • Health screenings
  • Helping with physical education classes
  • Health fairs
  • PHS kickoff events and more!

Earn Course Credit!

Undergraduates can enroll in Sociology 389, section 208 to receive three credits for teaching in a middle school and helping with other Project Healthy Schools opportunities. See the LS&A course guide for more information.

Who Can Volunteer?

We have many different types of volunteers.  Most are students from U of M and EMU. We also welcome parents and community members that are interested in children's health!
